Different Types of Sleep Disorders
Sleep Apnea is one of the most common sleep disorders. If left untreated, sleep apnea can lead to serious consequences, such as high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes. This may also lead to depression, irritability, poor work performance, and drowsy driving. This sleep disorder can be life-threatening and you should consult your doctor immediately if you feel you may suffer from it.
Narcolepsy is a sleep disorder marked by sudden, uncontrollable urges to sleep, causing an individual to fall asleep at inappropriate times. A combination of medications and behavioral approaches, such as scheduled naps, can help control narcolepsy.
Insomnia is a common condition in which you have trouble falling or staying asleep. This condition can range from mild to severe, depending on how often it occurs and for how long.
Resteless Leg Syndrome is a neurological disorder caracterized by uncomfortable sensations in the leg and, less commonly, the arms. The sensations are exacerbated (heightened) when the person with RLS is at rest. The sensations are described as crawly, tingly, prickly and occasionally painful. They result in a nearly insuppressible urge to move around. Symptoms are often associated with sleep disturbances. There are several treatment options, but its highly recommended to be diagnosed by a sleep physician.
